Bold, sculptural, and unmistakably mid-century, this late 1940s Mexican Modernist necklace is a wonderful example of the innovative silver jewelry created during Mexico's golden age of Taxco design.
The necklace is composed of scalloped crescent-shaped links that form a dramatic, dimensional collar around the neckline. Suspended from the center is a spectacular tiered bib pendant, constructed from graduated arcs and finished with a small spherical silver drop that moves gently with the wearer.
The design has a wonderful architectural quality. The repeated crescent forms create a strong graphic pattern across the neckline, while the cascading center draws the eye downward. Seen on the body, the bib seems to float from the collar, giving the necklace both movement and presence.
Crafted in 980 silver and weighing 55.9 grams, the necklace has the substantial feel collectors appreciate. The higher silver purity gives the metal a rich, warm luster that is particularly beautiful against the skin.
