Rare highly executed and detailed Art Deco brooch featuring a carved cicada insect. With a bronzed colored carved horn body, the wings of the piece are gold inlay to show a great color contrast. Cicadas have been featured in literature since the time of Homer's Iliad, and as motifs in art as early as the Chinese Shang dynasty. They have also been used in myths and folklore to represent carefree living and immortality. The bug brooch is in great condition with no noted chips or dents.
