A remarkable piece of 19th-century Scottish history, this antique Victorian dirk kilt pin brooch beautifully captures the spirit of traditional Highland craftsmanship.
Expertly rendered in richly engraved sterling silver, the brooch is modeled after the ceremonial Scottish dirk, a form steeped in Highland heritage. Vibrant orange jasper, grey banded Montrose agate, and richly colored green and red moss agate are set throughout the design, with each stone accented by a delicately carved thistle — Scotland’s enduring national emblem.
A faceted smoky quartz crowns the piece, adding a warm, shadowy depth and elegant contrast to the colorful agates. The combination of engraved silver, natural gemstones, and intricate thistle motifs gives the brooch a distinctly Victorian character while preserving its strong Scottish identity.
The period fastening features a traditional C-clasp, tubular hinge, and elongated pin stem, providing a secure and authentic finish. Measuring approximately 3 1/4 inches in length, just under 1/2 inch wide, and weighing 12.7 grams, it has a substantial yet wearable presence.
Rich in symbolism and beautifully detailed, this antique brooch is a striking celebration of Scotland’s Highland tradition. Its versatile design makes it equally handsome worn on a kilt, lapel, scarf, or shawl, and its timeless character makes it an exceptional piece for collectors and admirers of antique Scottish jewelry alike.
