Expertly crafted and highly coveted, this Art Deco necklace features a teardrop saphiret cabochon stone set in sterling silver. It is adorned with a simulated zircon gemstone and boasts a rich reddish mocha hue with hints of turquoise blue when viewed from different angles. A truly exceptional and rare find.
The highly sought saphiret glass was made by adding real gold to sapphire colored molten glass created an iridescent color combination. The base color ranged from a mocha or pinkish brown to a brick red color, with the desired affect that when light strikes the stone, the glass reflects the light the deep turquoise blue color. Stones having a more blue color have less gold. Due to cost restrictions and the rising cost of gold, the true saphiret such as in this brooch, was gradually discontinued.
