This charming Victorian pique brooch from the 1870s features a butterfly crafted from mottled shell, with sparkling 10K gold eyes, antennae, and delicate engraved gold patterns on its finely carved wings. Secured by a safety pin-style clasp and c-hook closure, this rare little critter showcases exquisite craftsmanship. The pique technique—embedding gold and silver into shell or ivory—was introduced to England by Huguenots in the late 1600s and truly flourished in the 19th century. A playful piece with a touch of history and sparkle!
