Dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this remarkable crucifix served as both a cherished expression of faith and a treasured religious heirloom, traditionally worn close to the heart or kept within a private devotional collection.
The hollow sterling silver cross opens using its original threaded pins, revealing an extraordinary interior lined in rich red fabric. Inside are parchment labels inscribed in Latin identifying various saints, including S. Joann. Bapt. (Saint John the Baptist) and S. Jos. (Saint Joseph), along with paper ovals that contain authenticated relic fragments. These relics, preserved within the cross, make it a fascinating and highly collectible piece of Christian history.
The exterior is beautifully engraved with delicate foliate motifs. The reverse features a cross framed by engraved forget-me-not details, symbols of remembrance, faith, and enduring love, creating an elegant and reverent design from every angle.
