A breathtaking 18th century Mughal bazuband pendant from India, exquisitely handcrafted in rich 22K gold and adorned with vibrant enamelwork, natural rubies, turquoise gemstones, and a beautifully engraved banded agate centerpiece.
The oval gold form centers a striking red, white, and black agate framed by a scalloped turquoise border against vivid red enamel. Openwork trefoil suspension loops at each end are decorated in intricate red, green, blue, and white enamel with natural ruby gemstone centers, while even the hinges reveal delicate green enamel hearts—an extraordinary display of fine Mughal craftsmanship.
The reverse is equally stunning, featuring scrolling floral motifs surrounded by richly colored red and blue enamel petal borders. Every surface reflects the artistry, refinement, and attention to detail associated with the finest Indian jewelry of the Mughal era.
Originally worn around the upper arm, bazubands became treasured symbols of status and adornment during the Mughal period. Today, this rare tripartite example can be worn as a dramatic pendant, styled with double chains, or adapted into an extraordinary bracelet.
