A charming antique Edwardian working compass with a fascinating history and a wonderful new life as a meaningful pendant. Originally created as a watch fob, this unique piece was made in Birmingham, England, in 1900 by T.J. Skelton.
The sterling silver fob is shaped like a horseshoe or stirrup, with a working compass nestled inside. The thick, round compass features a beautifully beveled glass cover, colorful red, gold, and black enamel directional markings, and a tiny blue enamel detail at the center.
Hallmarked and dating to 1900, this delightful Edwardian treasure combines beautiful craftsmanship with wonderful symbolism. A compass represents guidance, adventure, and finding your way through life's unexpected twists and turns. North symbolizes home and wisdom, South passion and creation, East new beginnings and inspiration, and West introspection and reflection.
Wear it as a good luck charm and a reminder to confidently follow your own course. It's a thoughtful gift for a graduate, traveler, adventurer, dear friend, or anyone beginning a new chapter. It would also make a fabulous addition to a layered necklace of vintage charms and pendants.
