Bold, sculptural, and beautifully distinctive, this sterling silver statement necklace was handcrafted circa 1993 by British silversmith Amanda Birkett.
The centerpiece is a spectacular 11.25-carat faceted oval citrine, its warm golden color set within an angular, open sterling silver frame. The sharp, organic lines have an unmistakable Art Nouveau influence, while the overall design has the strong graphic quality of modernist jewelry.
From the citrine pendant, a series of substantial solid sterling silver links curve gracefully around the neckline. At 66.4 grams, the necklace has serious presence and a wonderful sense of weight. Despite its bold construction, the articulated links allow it to follow the natural shape of the neck beautifully.
The design is finished with a hidden front clasp, an especially clever detail that keeps the necklace looking sleek and uninterrupted when worn.
Fully hallmarked with AB and London assay marks, this is a documented piece of British studio jewelry from the early 1990s. It combines the flowing influence of Art Nouveau with the bold geometry of modernist silverwork—and the glowing citrine gives it just the right touch of color.
