A rare and beautifully detailed Victorian sterling silver vinaigrette locket pendant, dating to circa 1856 and crafted by Hilliard and Thomason. This elegant scalloped rectangular piece is intricately engraved on all sides, featuring a graceful ivy motif on the front with a central cartouche ready for personalization.
The hinged locket opens to reveal a pierced gold gilt floral interior—designed to hold a small piece of cotton infused with perfume, a hallmark of traditional vinaigrettes. Once worn on a chatelaine, these pieces were both functional and decorative, offering a subtle way to carry fragrance during the Victorian era.
Rich in history and craftsmanship, this exceptional pendant is a true collector’s piece and a striking example of antique wearable art.
