Victorian Pearl Onyx 12K Gold Brooch Pin, C. 1870
Beautiful antique 12K gold Victorian bar brooch pin, circa 1870s, featuring a thick carved bar of black onyx. The center has an X in gold with seed pearls and sprays of flowers studded with pearls. Most likely worn as a mourning brooch during the second year of mourning with the pearls signifying tears. The back has a tubular hinge and curling c-clasp closure as well as the original safety pin and chain for security. A lovely piece that can be worn as easily today as it was well over 150 years ago!
