Fabulous Victorian tortoise shell necklace with round operculum shells exuding a wonderful color. The shells bear color variations from chocolate brown, mocha, forest green and tan...all on a cream ivory white background. Set in a tortoise shell round background, a silver chain ending with a spring ring clasp complete the piece. Excellent shells and a simple presentation.
During the Victorian era, the operculum shell or "evil eye" was made into jewelry for protection of the wearer. So unique and quite the talisman piece!
Measurements: 16 3/4 inches long with the operculum links approximately 32mm...the center one is a bit larger.
Condition: Very good with no chips or nicks to the shells...the tortoise shell shows wonderful color with each thick round disk different from the next.
