Water Sapphire 14K Gold Wedding Band Ring
Often referred to as water sapphire, this blue iolite shines a regal blue in this 14K yellow gold belcher mounted Edwardian wedding band ring. Open back, the iolite is multi prong set with the shoulders graduating down to a plain back band. Stack this ring with other or wear as a wedding or alternative engagement ring...stunning piece of history!
The water sapphire glows a deep blue and from different angles can change to a purple in color. Viking navigators were able to locate the exact position of the sun on overcast days by using the iolite. Iolite does what a Polaroid does- it cancels out haze, mist, and clouds to make things appear clearer. The stone has been called the "Viking's Compass." Only officially named in 1912, iolite has been used and admired for centuries. It was very popular in jewelry in the 18th Century in Europe but today it is used somewhat infrequently.
