Charming Victorian Gold Tortoise Shell Pique Earrings
Delightful antique Victorian pique earrings, circa 1870s, set with fine pierced 9K gold bands. The drop dangle bean shape oval earrings have three gold inlayed pieces completely down the center of each with silver curved ear wires and clasp. The technique for making pique, inlaying gold and silver into shell or ivory, was brought to England by the Huguenots when they were expelled from France in the late 17th Century. Pique jewelry blossomed in the late 1800's. All original superb antique Victorian earrings!

- Condition: In very good condition with the gold complete and the ear wires functioning. The shell could use an oil. The care requirements for these is to soak them in corn oil and then buff to dry.
