Product Details

From the mid 19th century comes piece of mourning jewelry in the form of a wide gutta percha Victorian antique bracelet with a carved cameo center . A large oval beveled plaque has an elaborate three dimensional carved cameo. The oval connects to a wrap band that graduates down in size and crosses over in the back. Exquisitely produced and a most unique piece of Victorian mourning jewelry that is as wearable today as it was 150 years ago!

Gutta percha is derived from tropical trees indigenous to Southeast Asia. The sap from the trees formed a latex which allowed the Victorians to create jewelry, furniture as well as dentistry. Blocks of gray, black and brown were used by the artists to create the pieces. This bracelet is a wonderful piece of Victorian history and very well preserved.

Measurements: 6 5/8 inches on the inside at rest but will expand to accommodate a larger wrist size. 1 3/4 inches wide in the front with the band measuring 1 1/4 inches at the widest and graduating to 1 inch in the back
Circa: 1850-1860 Civil War Era
Condition: Very good antique condition...no nicks or chips to the carving which is crisp and clean. Note that the photos are slightly lightened to show detail.
