Antique Victorian Braided Hair Work Mourning Bracelet
A hinged solid 12K rose gold forget me not engraved clasp in the centerpiece of this beautiful antique Victorian braided hair work mourning bracelet. The large center panel is engraved with a wreath of forget me not flowers with the side panels having a single forget me not flower accompanied by delicate leaves. The wide woven hair displays various patterns. A secure hidden slide clasp closes the piece. Measuring 7 inches long and 3/4 inch wide in the front, the bracelet is a lovely piece of mid 19th century memento mori mourning jewelry.
Not all braided hair jewelry was for mourning during the Victorian era. Since hair was incredibly personal, women would braid locks of hair from their husbands or fiances as a love token.
The braiding is predominantly secure with little if any fraying other than the fine tips. The rose gold is in immaculate condition free of any dents or dings.
