Antique Silver Paste Edwardian Suffragette Pendant
A green peridot, white diamond paste and violet amethyst paste stones handset in silver form this excellent antique Edwardian Suffragette pendant. Set in an elaborate frame, the center of the pendant has a basket weave design with alternating green and crystal stone surrounded by a frame of hand set diamond paste stones. The outer frame is punctuated with amethyst glass stones in a diamond shape. The bale is a stylized bow with the back of the pendant hallmarked 800. Suffragette jewelry is in great demand and this is a splendid example of history.
The official colors of WSPU were declared and explained in the spring of 1908. They were purple (dignity), white (purity) and green (hope). Hundreds of protesters, wearing those colours, would march behind similarly coloured banners. The colors also stood for Give (green) Women (white) Votes (violet.
