Antique Gold Woven Hair Victorian Mourning Bracelet
Striking antique Victorian mourning bracelet with floral engraved gold elements on the front and a band of woven hair, circa mid 1800s. The wide bracelet features several different kinds of braided woven human hair gathered by gold ends. Hinged to the center is an engraved barrel shape link with a loop to hang a heart or locket for a memento. Ingeniously crafted, the hair expands to put over the wrist and then contracts once in place. An excellent example of hair jewelry perfect for any mourning jewelry collection.
Not all braided hair jewelry was for mourning during the Victorian era. Since hair was incredibly personal, women would braid locks of hair from their husbands or fiances as a love token.
