Antique Gold Tortoise Shell Pique Pendant Necklace
A striking antique Victorian tortoise shell pique pendant necklace, circa 1860s. The domed pendant has a 14K yellow gold honeycomb design along with a gold band and sterling silver flower center. The pique is riveted via a sterling silver bar to a black carved horn circle. Excellent craftsmanship.
The technique for making pique, inlaying gold and silver into shell or ivory, was brought to England by the Huguenots when they were expelled from France in the late 17th Century. Pique jewelry blossomed in the late 1800's. All original superb antique Victorian pendant necklace!
