Antique Onyx 14K Gold HorseShoe Brooch, Civil War
Exquisite and heavy antique 14K gold Victorian brooch with a horse shoe design from the Civil War era, circa 1860s. Featuring a thick carved bar of black onyx at the top with a large ball at the top and sides, the brooch has dangling teardrop pendants. The center drop has a large concave horse shoe with dangling pendants swaying in the center. Even the back is superbly crafted with curving thick 14K gold. Wearing horseshoe Victorian Jewelry was said to help ward off demons, hardships, misfortune, and protect from evil spirits. It was thought to bring the owner success, harmony, and many blessings. A lovely piece that can be worn as easily today as it was well over 150 years ago!

In excellent condition with no chips or nicks and the gold clean and expertly crafted. There is a slight deficiency at one of the beads at the top with the roll over clasp a later replacement.
