A wonderfully unusual Victorian pendant, this striking antique jewel combines a dramatic natural banded agate with one of the most iconic symbols of the Victorian era—the serpent.
The large oval agate is bezel-set and surrounded by a beautifully detailed snake, its head curling over the top of the stone while its tail winds gracefully down the side. During the Victorian era, the serpent was a powerful symbol of eternity, wisdom, renewal, and everlasting love, making the motif especially meaningful in sentimental jewelry.
The agate itself is spectacular, with natural bands of white, cream, caramel, and deep chocolate brown flowing through the stone in a completely unique pattern. No two pieces of banded agate are alike, and this one has a wonderfully bold, organic presence.
Dating to the turn of the 20th century, the pendant was originally silver-washed over base metal. Much of the silver wash has mellowed with age, giving the piece a beautifully authentic antique appearance.
The reverse features a locket compartment with a removable ring. The glass is currently missing but could easily be replaced, allowing you to add a photograph or keepsake.

Condition: Good condition, with the silver wash worn away, revealing the warm undertone color. The agate is chip and nick free.
