This antique Victorian bracelet features a large oval beveled plaque with an intricately carved three-dimensional snowdrop flower bouquet, complete with detailed leaves. The oval connects to a wrap band that tapers in size and crosses over in the back. The snowdrop symbolizes purity, hope, rebirth, and consolation, making this an exquisitely produced and truly unique piece of Victorian mourning jewelry. With over 150 years of history, this bracelet remains just as wearable today as it was when it was first created.
Gutta percha is derived from tropical trees indigenous to Southeast Asia. The sap from the trees formed a latex which allowed the Victorians to create jewelry, furniture as well as dentistry. Blocks of gray, black and brown were used by the artists to create the pieces. This bracelet is a wonderful piece of Victorian history and very well preserved.
