A fascinating antique Victorian “pools of light” rock crystal locket wrapped in a soft rolled gold bezel. The large 21.9mm quartz crystal has the distinctive optical effect these pieces are known for—magnifying whatever is placed inside while making the image appear upside down and backward.
The locket opens to hold a photograph, tiny keepsake, or other treasured memento. A hook wraps over the braided edge to form the closure.
These unusual rock crystal pieces were originally exported from China to the West during the 1800s and became treasured examples of Victorian jewelry. The crystal has an almost magical quality when viewed in the light, making this both a beautiful necklace and a wonderful conversation piece.
