Superb and collectible antique Victorian saphiret glass ball cauldron pot pendant charm! Set in a gold filled engraved mounting, the 114.25mm saphiret stone rolls within an engraved top and a footed bottom complete with a kettle swivel handle. Wonderful deep reddish mocha coloring with flashes of turquoise blue when moved. A most excellent and hard-to-find charm pendant!
The highly sought saphiret glass was made by adding real gold to sapphire colored molten glass created an iridescent color combination. The base color ranged from a mocha or pinkish brown to a brick red color, with the desired affect that when light strikes the stone, the glass reflects the light the deep turquoise blue color. Stones having a more blue color have less gold. Due to cost restrictions and the rising cost of gold, the true saphiret such as in this brooch, was gradually discontinued.
