An exceptional antique necklace dating to the 1820s, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship of Georgian-era jewelry. Multiple rows of natural seed pearls are arranged in an elaborate festoon design, creating delicate, lace-like sections with graceful movement and dimension.
The necklace was painstakingly constructed by sewing tiny seed pearls onto hand-pierced mother-of-pearl plaques using horsehair thread. These intricate sections are backed with 14K gold oval mounts for added stability, preserving the remarkable workmanship of this early nineteenth-century treasure.
The slide clasp is a beautiful focal point, featuring a rectangular golden topaz surrounded by small seed pearls. The gemstone is set in a closed-back 14K gold mount with reflective metallic foil beneath the stone, a period technique used to enhance its color and brilliance in candlelight.
Dangling seed-pearl drops lend movement and elegance to the elaborate design. A rare and collectible example of Georgian jewelry, this extraordinary necklace offers a glimpse into the artistry and techniques of early nineteenth-century jewelers.
