An exquisite example of Victorian craftsmanship, this striking antique brooch is beautifully carved from authentic Whitby jet. Measuring approximately 2 1/4 inches, the substantial oval brooch showcases the deep, velvety black luster that made Whitby jet one of the most beloved materials in 19th-century jewelry.
The brooch features faceted sides that add subtle dimension and elegance to the design. At the center, a finely detailed bouquet of lily of the valley is delicately carved in relief, appearing to flow gracefully across the surface. The artistry of the carving highlights the skill of the Victorian craftsman and gives the piece remarkable depth and character.
The back is fitted with a large oval silver backing and a traditional Victorian closure consisting of an elongated pin, tubular hinge, and C-clasp, all consistent with authentic antique construction.
