A delightful antique Victorian pique brooch pin, circa 1870s. The domed brooch has a 9K yellow gold and silver floral bouquet in the center with a circle motif around the outside. The pique pin has a concave back with a tubular and c-clasp closure. This looks splendid as a pendant suspended from a gold chain. Excellent craftsmanship.
The technique for making pique, inlaying gold and silver into shell or ivory, was brought to England by the Huguenots when they were expelled from France in the late 17th Century. Pique jewelry blossomed in the late 1800's. All original superb antique Victorian pendant necklace!
